Four ranges, almost no crowds

The Ruby Valley trek is a beautiful, low-key homestay trek through the Ganesh Himal region between Langtang and Manaslu — named for the rubies once mined in its hills. Its high point, the Pangsang La (3,850 m), serves up a rare four-range panorama of Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Manaslu and even distant Annapurna.

The route

From Syabrubesi you reach the Tamang village of Gatlang with its sacred lake, climb to Somdang below Ganesh Himal, and cross the Pangsang La. The descent leads through the homestay villages of Tipling, Shertung and Borang to a roadhead in Dhading and back to Kathmandu.

Permits

  • TIMS card for the core route.
  • Langtang National Park permit if you start or cross via the Langtang side (Syabrubesi/Pangsang).
  • A licensed guide is required.

Difficulty & season

Moderate and low-altitude (max ~3,850 m), so altitude illness is unlikely — ideal for those wanting culture and big views without an expedition. Go in March–May for rhododendron, or October–December for the clearest four-range views. Budget 7–12 days from Kathmandu.
